Description
Summary:The characteristics of several successful schemes that have been used to produce artificial sea and salt ice for laboratory studies are described. Difficulties that have been encountered in developing suitable experimental designs for investigating a variety of specific sea ice problems (salinity, grain size, substructure and orientation variations; preparation of single crystals and underwater ice) are discussed and suggestions are given for improved methods.
