Summary:The report describes the glacial environment and processes now in existence in southeastern Alaska. The dominant surficial geologic processes are glaciation and stream action. Formed in the high mountains, glaciers erode bedrock, sculpture characteristic landforms, and deposit subglacial and marginal debris. In areas vacated by the glacier, sediment-laden streams help to construct a landscape whose varied landforms originate from the complex interaction between a retreating ice margin, disintegrating ice, and running or ponded meltwater.
