Summary:Likeability and compatibility are considered important concepts in predicting group effectiveness in isolated environments. In the Antarctic setting group compatibility and group accomplishment are highly related. Formality of group structure had a nonlinear relationship with group compatibility; groups which were either clearly formal or informal were more compatible than groups of apparently ambiguous or inconsistent structure. Analyses of the interactions of role, personality, and group attributes in predicting group compatibility have suggested useful approaches to study of the group assembly problem in isolated environments.
