Summary:The study is based on data gathered by the latest expeditional observations in the Bering Sea and the Gulf of Alaska. Three zones of morphostructures can be distinguished on the ocean floor -- continental, transitional and oceanic -- each of which is associated with corresponding types of the earth's crust. Volcanic activity has contributed greatly to the complexity of the geological structures represented by the Komandorsko-Kurile Islands arch and by deep depressions and trenches. Some of these structures are still activity changing their forms. These changes are, however, often very complex. The Aleutian Trench, for example, is receiving such large quantities of sediments so that it is from 2 to 4km shallower than the adjacent trenches. In spite of this, its form is preserved because the rapid sinking of the trench bottom makes the sedimentation rate in the area quite intense.
