Description
Summary:A discussion is given of the continential drift theory in its various hypothetical stages. Through the analysis of the existing geological data, it is concluded that two supercontinents, Lavrasia and Gondvana, have existed prior to the middle of the Mesozoic Era. The massifs of the continental crust of Lavrasia consist of old platforms, such as North America, Greenland, Barents Sea, Asia, Russia, Siberia and Kolyma. As a result of the earth's rotation, convectional forces of the earth's crust and cosmogonic causes, the individual massifs become detached from Lavrasian super-continent and began to drift, forming ridges and deep faults. The geological structure of these formations can be associated with the land masses that had drifted away and constitute now either continents, islands, submarine ridges or trenches.
