Description
Summary:The characteristics of the snow cover at Lebanon Regional Airport, New Hampshire and vicinity for the three winters between 1964 and 1967 were investigated. Report includes information on snowfall amounts, snow depth, snow hardness, snow density, and water equivalent. Meteorological data and snow and ground temperatures were also investigated. A mean annual snowfall map for northern New England was developed. Relationships between snow density and climate were investigated. Wind and air temperature data were used to estimate values of snow density; these values were on the average 14% less than the observed values. The mean snow density for the three winters studied was 0.272 g/cu cm; the mean snow-cover hardness was 885 g/sq cm; the average water equivalent of the snow at Lebanon Regional Airport at the time of maximum snow depth was 8 cm; and the average temperature gradient through the snow cover was 0.4C/cm.
