Description
Summary:The paper presents a summary of studies which have been made of the effect of frost action on pavement supporting capacities as part of a comprehensive frost investigational program initiated by the Corps of Engineers in l944. The purpose of the program was to develop design and evaluation criteria for pavements constructed on subgrade soils subject to frost action. The studies represent the first large scale investigation directed toward the development of pavement design and evaluation criteria based on the weakened condition of thawed subgrade soils. (Author)
