Description
Summary:Methods used in the calculation of the direction and speed of ice drift are divided into two groups: those carried out from aboard (1) anchored and (2) drifting vessels. They include: the sighting of drifting ice floes and determination of distances to them with the aid of azimuth circle, the use of lead line thrown on drift ice, navigational method with the aid of coastal objects, radar and radar sightings, as well as the astronomical method. The accuracy of results, simplicity and convenience in carrying out the calculations are analyzed, compared and evaluated, taking into consideration the ice and weather conditions the required degree of precision, the speed of determination and the available personnel and technical means.
