Description
Summary:In spring the biomass of zooplankton reaches its maximum value exceeding 500mg/cu m in the 0-100m layer and occupying a belt 30-50 miles wide; this belt deflects somewhat from the Kurile Islands, namely, from the southernmost stations of the investigated area to the latitude of Petropavlovsk and the area SW of Kamchatskiy proliv. The water along the northern boundary of the intermixing zone was also very rich in plankton. The same character of distribution between zones that are rich and poor in plankton is observed in the autumn, but the total biomass of plankton during the time is smaller.
