Summary:The report describes the present state of development of a photoelectric instrument intended to measure the transport of wind driven snow. In principle, the instrument counts individual particles of snow and obtains statistical information about their velocity and size. The instrument is designed to detect thousands of individual particles per second, whose longest dimension is at least 50 microns, traveling at speeds up to at least 40 meters per second (which is 90 miles per hour). The instrument is operable in sunlight and in darkness. (Author)
