Description
Summary:Absorption of cosmic radio noise in lower ionosphere due to arrival of solar cosmic rays has been calculated for several locations at high magnetic latitudes. Calculation was made in three parts; volume production rate of electrons from ionization, equilibrium electron density resulting from competition between production and recombination processes, and absorption of electro magnetic radiation passing through ionized region. Calculation was made for proton energy spectra in the form of power law as observed by balloon-borne detectors following large solar flares. Calculated absorption was compared with observations obtained by riometers (relative ionospheric opacity meter) A Point Barrow, For Yuko College, and Farewell, Alaska.
