Description
Summary:The design and construction of the foundation of transmission towers in permafrost regions is influenced by permafrost soil. Many characteristics of permafrost threaten the construction and safe operation of the transmission line engineering. These characteristics include frost heave, thaw settlement, and frost lifting, all of which have been aggravated by global warming and permafrost degradation. The principle applied in calculating the frost-heave force of the line tower foundation in permafrost regions is analyzed in this study based on the climate of both arctic and permafrost regions and on the characteristics of permafrost. The commonly used foundation types and the working conditions suitable for such types are also summarized.
