Summary:Nantes has a long history of alternation between periods of prosperity and hardship. However, for about 15 years, the city has been experiencing a spectacular economic and social transformation, accompanied by strong urban and population growth. Amalgamated with Saint-Nazaire, Nantes is heading towards metropolisation. To improve its rank among European cities, it needs to multiply partnerships within the Atlantic “Great West”, with which it shares the disadvantage of marginality.
