Description
Summary:The main subdivisions among the most widespread column types in the Paleoproterozoic complex of Karelian ministromatolites were identified based on their characteristic morphological features. That helps to refine the classification of the class Ministromatophyceae (ministromatolites) and systematize the available material. Individual petrographic thin sections with ministromatolites were analyzed by the Raman scattering method. The results show the rock composition and the morphology details of clotted material. Morphologically, structures found in the clotted material can be compared to modern cyanobacteria, suggesting the structures are biogenic. The spectra of carbonaceous material in their composition support this point of view.
