Description
Summary:The world media and the diplomatic world were shocked when the US President Donald Trump said that the US intends to acquire the island of Greenland from Denmark. D. Trump's proposal caused quite a sharp negative reaction of the Danish and Greenlandic governments. Trump canceled an official visit to Copenhagen and said that Denmark's financial contribution to ensuring normal NATO funding is insufficient. This has already caused concern among the leaders of the European Union, which is not the first time faced with the idea of reducing American contributions to the budget of the military organization with an increase in European spending on it. The intrigue with the deal on Greenland has a number of important aspects, including the acquisition of huge reserves of minerals, especially rare earth metals, the military and strategic importance of the Arctic zone, the US-China rivalry in world trade, the US relationship with the European Union.
