Summary: | ABSTRACT: A randomly serotypification was performed, on species of Candida albicans isolated in yeast obtained from biological samples remitted to the Mycology Section of the Maracaibo´s University Hospital, Clinical Laboratory Department. All of the 152 samples; analyzed were positive to both direct and cultured assays, 61 (40.13%) corresponding to C. albicans, and 91 (58.8%) to Candida no albicans. Among the samples assayed, 22 (14.47%) showed presence of blastocondiae and pseudohyphae, 15 (68.8%) corresponding to C. albicans and 7 (31.82%) to Candida no albicans. In those cases where under direct assay only blastoconiciae were observed C. albicans was identified in 46 (35,31%) and Candida no albicans was identified in 84 (64.62%). C albicans showed a higher incidence in samples from bronchial washes. The serotypification of 24 strains of C. albicans, randomly chosen, resulted in 23 (95.83%) serotype A strains and only 1 (4.17%) serotype B strain in a bronchial wash sample. Serotype A showed predominance as has been reported in different biological samples serotypification studies. |
