Summary:Abstract. The article considers current state and perspectives of further studies of peculiarities of formation of the ice regime, development of the methods of ice forecasts and development of ice cover monitoring. The importance of investigation of both the general regularities of the ice regime of the Arctic Ocean and revealing of spatial-temporal variability of some ice regime elements is justified.
