Description
Summary:Object and purpose of research. This paper studies Novorossiysk, the third diesel-electric icebreaker of Project 21900M. The purpose of this study is to provide full-scale confirmation of the icebreaker’s specification parameters in terms of propulsion performance in ice conditions. Materials and methods. Analysis of the full-scale test data for Project 21900M icebreakers. Main results. Novorossiysk icebreaker features a high propulsion performance for both ahead and astern running, her results being practically the same as corresponding parameters of Vladivostok icebreaker. Novorossiysk can successfully go through ridges and has good maneuvrability and turning ability in ice conditions. Conclusion. Processed full-scale test data for the icebreaker confirm her compliance with all the specification requirements. In terms of propulsion performance and maneuvrability in ice conditions Novorossiysk corresponds to Icebreaker 7 ice class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
