Description
Summary:The depositional environment of the Teikangas formation in southwestern Finland has been studied. The formation is an isolated, ice marginal accumulation of coarse-grained sediments north of the Hämeenkangas ridge, related to the Weichselian ice sheet. The results indicate that the Teikangas feature represents subaqueous ice-contact fan built by the onlapping of several smaller fans that have prograded from different directions. The fan system was developed during the final retreat of the Weichselian ice-sheet (the Näsijärvi-Jyväskylä Lobe), at its terminus in the Baltic Yoldia Sea.
