By thisarticle, weseek to analyze the thoughtof the abovementioned liberator through primary, secondary and tertiary sources that allow for understandingthe significanceof histhinkingonthe development of a pre–geopoliticsin whichthe role of Chile couldbe relevant in the domain of the southern space. Durante el periodo de la Independencia, Bernardo O’Higgins desarrolló un interesante pensamiento sobre las potencialidades del territorio chileno. Educado en Lima y Londres, sus conocimientos le permitieron comprender las potencialidades de Chile como estado austral, dominando la sección sur del Océano Pacíficoy alcanzando los últimos rincones del continente americano. Por medio del presente artículo, se busca analizar el pensamiento del libertadorreferidomediante el uso de fuentes primarias, secundariasy terciarias, que nos permitan entender los alcances de sus ideas en torno a la elaboración de una pre–geopolítica donde el rol de Chile fuese relevante en el dominio del espacio austral.
