Summary:The border zone in between Russia and Norway is a place of huge strategic significance, and of very especial strategic features, all of them deserving a detailed analysis. Both countries share a common border in the Kola Peninsula, part of the Artic region, where different strategic, commercial and of course politic interests meet. A region where, since the end of the Cold War, both countries have maintained a policy aimed at cooperation, and focused in maintaining a low level of tension in the common border. However Russia’s actions related to Ukraine’s conflict are representative of its willingness to use a range of tools, including military force, to support and achieve its national security interests. As a consequence the perception of the situation along the common border has changed radically, especially because Russia has its most important security assets, the ballistic nuclear submarines (SSBN) of the Northern Fleet, based in the Kola Peninsula, just 100 kilometers from the Norwegian border, and so Russia perceives a limited strategic depth for the defence of those bases, something which outlines the whole security situation in northern Norway El área de la frontera entre Rusia y Noruega tiene un enorme significado geopolítico y unas características particulares que merecen un examen.
