| Summary: | We can assert without fearing to make a mistake that the Public Space of Bogota is in crisis. It is evident the state of deterioration of parks and sidewalks in almost all the city sectors. This worrisome situation is not only an esthetic problem but also affects directly the quality of life and the urban comfort. Now then, what is the source of this crisis? If we look at our public space with architect critical eyes, it is not difficult to conclude that the shape of the elements that conform it, does not longer match to the present requirements and this is mainly a planning and design problem. The strong uses segregation that characterized the urban growth since Forties produced an indifference public space, mostly of residential districts that nowadays must be renovated into a space which supports central activities. It is a qualitative structural change and it is an urgent task that can not be postponed, because the public space is the most significant structural element of the city Podemos afirmar sin temor a equivocarnos que el espacio público de Bogotá está en crisis. El estado de deterioro de sus parques y andenes es evidente en todos los sectores de la ciudad. Esta preocupante situación no es un problema solamente estético sino que afecta directamente la calidad de vida y el confort urbano. Ahora bien ¿a que se debe esta crisis? Si observamos nuestro espacio público con ojos críticos de arquitecto no es difícil concluir que la forma de los elementos que lo conforman ya no corresponde a las necesidades actuales y este es principalmente un problema de planificación y diseño. La fuerte segregación de usos que caracterizó el crecimiento de la ciudad a partir de la década de los cuarenta produjo un espacio público indiferenciado, en su mayoría de barrio residencial que hoy debe ser transformado en un espacio que soporte actividades centrales.
