Shows cities, coastlines, shoals, islands and sailing routes. Includes latitudinal and longitudinal lines, and a compass rose with north oriented toward top of sheet. With explanatory text. Chart is 54 x 80 cm, on fold-out sheet 62 x 87 cm. Pilot chart : 1894-1896, published in 1896 by the U.S. Hydrographic Office, Bureau of Navigation, Navy Department, Washington, D.C. Gilt spine title and seal on front cover: Bibliothek Marinens. Verso to front cover has label - “Farvandsbeskr. B.II.a.l.” and stamp “Marinens Bibliotek, 2den Afdoling, Søkort-Arkivet . “ Volume comprised of 77 nautical charts and 3 maps of the North Atlantic Ocean on 51 leaves to plates - mostly double - with multiple charts together on certain plates. Charts show cities, coastlines, islands, sailing routes, ocean currents, storm tracks, weather forecasts, fog belts, equatorial rains, tropical cyclones and wind, as well as icebergs, ice fields and the limits of ice coverage. Data visualization illustrates wind force and directions. Descriptive text accompanies charts, covering topics such as weather, derelicts, dangerous navigation, and equator crossings for sailing passages in the Pacific Ocean. Atlas depicts the ocean activity during each month from January, 1894, to December, 1896. In addition, other charts feature great circle sailing in the North Atlantic Ocean, South Atlantic Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, South Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean.
