Includes latitudinal and longitudinal lines, a legend and compass rose with north oriented toward top of sheet. Descriptive text throughout, such as reports on weather, ice, comets, waterspouts and earthquakes. Colored lithograph, with infographics overlaid upon geography. Chart is 53 x 75 cm, on double sheet 60 x 82 cm. "The variation is for 1885." Pilot chart : 1887-1889, published in 1889 by the U.S. Hydrographic Office, Bureau of Navigation, Navy Department, Washington, D.C. Gilt spine title and seal on front cover: Bibliothek Marinens. Verso to front cover has label - “Farvandsbeskr. B.II.a.l.” and stamp “Marinens Bibliotek, 2den Afdoling, Søkort-Arkivet . “ Volume comprised of 49 nautical charts of the North Atlantic Ocean on 40 leaves to plates - mostly double - with 10 charts on one plate together. Charts show cities, coastlines, islands, sailing routes, ocean currents, storm tracks, fog belts, equatorial rains, tropical cyclones and wind, as well as icebergs, ice fields and the limits of ice coverage. Data visualization illustrates wind force and directions. Descriptive text accompanies charts, covering topics such as weather, earthquakes, waterspouts, derelicts, dangerous navigation, shipwrecks and "unusual phenomena". Atlas depicts the ocean activity during each month from January, 1887, to December, 1889. In addition, other charts feature the derelict American schooner "W. L.
