Description
Summary:This chart should be viewed with Blunt's North Atlantic chart of 1832/35 and the two sheet Norie Chart of the Pacific Ocean, 1825/36. The four sheets were owned and used for many whaling trips by an American captain out of New York in the 1840's and 50's and are marked with his ships' tracks and numerous whale sightings. Blunt's charts of the North and South Atlantic are not easily found and Guthorn only mentions some earlier, larger scale coastal charts found in Blunt's 1830 atlas of charts of the North and South Atlantic Oceans (P3661). Inset maps from left to right: 1. Channel through the Abrolhos Banks, 2. Bahia or San Salvador from the Surveys of Comr. Fitzroy, Captn. M.H. Dixon and Baron Rousin, 3. Sketch of the Manoel Luiz Bank By M. le Baron Roussin, 4. Table Bay, 5. Walwich Bay, 6. Angra Pequena, 7. Sketch of the Roadstead Of St. Helena. Not in Guthorn; cf P3661.
