Description
Summary:Map in full color. The Russian settlements are underlined in red. The Esquimaux settlements are underlined in blue. With two inset maps: Sitka and its approaches from the Russian and British authorities; and an untitled map showing the North Pacific Ocean including the great circle line from Hakodadi, Japan to San Francisco, California. This important map is the first to use the name Alaska for the territory acquired from Russia. Phillips lists this second edition of the map and an undated, presumably first edition. Apparently (WH copy) the second edition map was included with the speech. Report without a cover. Map is back with linen and in color. Howes S1134; P-Maps p.95.
