Description
Summary:This dataset contains nutrient concentrations, temperature, salinity, density and dissolved oxygen values measured by CTD profiles on the U.S. Northeast Continental Shelf in support of ocean acidification research. Nutrients were measured in the laboratory using water samples collected during the CTD profiles at discrete depths. Ocean acidification is associated with increased concentrations of carbon dioxide that forms carbonic acid when dissolved in water. Marine primary production plays an important part in the carbon cycle by converting inorganic forms of carbon into organic matter. Variations in the concentrations of nutrients can limit or enhance primary production rates. An understanding of nutrient dynamics is therefore important to understanding and predicting marine carbon cycling and possible future impacts of ocean acidification. ...
