Summary:This report summarizes the sampling and analyses of bivalve shells from the Delaware River and Bay and continental shelf of New Jersey (Part I). Six bivalve species were collected from five salinity ranges: (1) Fresh - Corbicula fluminea (Asiatic clam); (2) Upper estuarine/brackish - Rangia cuneata (wedge clam) ( 3) Lower estuarine - Geukensia demissa (ribbed mussel) and Mytilus edulis (blue mussel); (4) Open coast and inner continental shelf - Spisula solidissima (surf clam); and (5) Outer continental shelf - Arctica islandica (ocean quahog). Following this general introduction will be a general methods section detailing the collection sites for each species and the techniques employed in sectioning and analyses of shells. This is followed by separate results, discussion, and conclusions sections for each of the six species, and a general summary and conclusions section for the entire study.
