Summary:This figure comes from the CIMR Deliverable 70 (Scientific Benefit Case Study 1) which evaluates CIMR Support for Future Shipping and Off-Shore Industry Activities. This figure shows the blended MASAM2 sea ice extent product for 16 October 2012. The original figure is from Posey et al., 2015. This highlights how satellites are required to "fill-in" gaps (shown in green) where operational sea ice maps are unable. These can be seen in the green sections that close off the NSR in the East Siberian Sea. There are also important details added to the straits between the islands of the Canadian Archipelago which also close off access.
