Description
Summary:Avian influenza, or bird flu, is a virus that has much of the world’s medical and scientificcommunity concerned. The purpose of our senior thesis has been to research the originand spread of this potentially devastating disease. We also have investigated the use ofsocial distancing, i.e. reducing the frequency of human contact within a population, toslow the spread of the disease. We have developed and exercised a model that indicatesthat social distancing can be helpful in reducing the severity of an avian flu outbreak. Wehave used GIS techniques to help visualize the spread of avian flu.
