The accuracy of the area measurement is limited by the inaccuracy inherent in the mapping of the various boundary features in the TIGER® file. Land area includes intermittent water and glaciers, which appear on census maps and in the TIGER file as hydrographic features. The files contained in this dataset are from the Census Gazetteer Files, which were extracted from the Census 2000 Summary File 1 (SF1) DVD with Software Enhancement (Product Id: V1-D00-S1S1-08-US1). Area measurement data provide the size of geographic entities for which the U.S. Census Bureau tabulates and disseminates data. Area is calculated from the specific boundary recorded for each entity in the US Census Bureau's geographic database, TIGER, which is an acronym for the Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (system or database).
