Dataset: The Coastal and Marine Ecosystem dataset was compiled by WRI from numerous sources, and includes 46 metrics related to production, nutrition, trade, jurisdictions, fisheries, and species. Data on production (aquaculture, capture, and fisheries production), nutrition, and trade are from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Fisheries and Aquaculture Information and Statistics Service (FAOSTAT). Most other fisheries data are from FAO Fishery Information, Data and Statistics Unit (FIDI); percent of the population living within 100 kilometers from the coast is derived from the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), WRI, and International Food Policy Research Institute. Mangrove forest area and species data are from Spalding, M., F. Blasco, and C. Field (Eds.)."World Mangrove Atlas", The International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems (ISME), Okinawa, Japan, 1997. Other species data are from World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) and International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). Marine jurisdiction data are calculations from L. Pruett and J. Cimino, unpublished data, Global Maritime Boundaries Database (GMBD), Veridian - MRJ Technology Solutions; coastal length data are based on the World Vector Shoreline, United States Defense Mapping Agency, 1989.
