Summary:Fax from the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service to Dwayne Mangum of the Acting District Conservationist. Archaeological and other cultural resources evaluation of one project area identified by the US Department of Agriculture resulted in on-site archaeological inspection of Dam #1 in the North American Waterfowl Management (NAWM) project (24 acres) (Ferguson et al. 1994). Inspection identified potentially significant cultural resources within the impact area associated with construction of Dam #l– NAWM including several engineering (water control) structures associated with mid- to late nineteenth- and possibly early twentieth-century (post-1840) tidal rice culture at Marrington Plantation on Back River.
