Description
Summary:This dataset provides nightly values for activity of two Pipistrelle bat species (Pipistrellus pipistrellus and Pipistrellus pygmaeus) with associated weather and weekly potential food resource data. Bat activity was recorded continually on three ultrasonic acoustic loggers for 185 days (31/04 to 01/11/2014) in an upland pine forest in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. ... : Cross-checking accuracy of auto-identification software was crucial, and prior to use a 1000 records were cross-checked, and no mis-identifications of target species found. For continuity Pipistrelle bats left unresolved were assigned to species using 50KHz as the species delimiter. Wind direction cardinals was calculated from degrees using the following equation in Microsoft excel (=CHOOSE(INT(MOD(((WindDir*100) +1125),36000)/4500)+1,"N", "NE", "E", "SE", "S", "SW", "W", "NW"), whilst cloud base categories were established using the following equation (=IF(CloudBase<350,"Fog",IF(CloudBase >650,"High","Low")). Bat activity data was expressed as passes per hour, and was calculated by the total number of passes/hours in night. ...
