description Dry weight, carbon content and density of sediment samples collected during a series of ship-board sampling campaigns in the Barents Sea, along a North-South transect at 30 degrees Longitude in July of 2018 (cruise JR17007) and 2019 (cruise JR18006) as part of the Changing Arctic Ocean programme. Samples were collected using replicate USNL box corer boxes; a 30 cm diameter round sub-corer was used to extract an intact sediment core and the overlying water. Measurements were taken after resuspension from within the flume channel (representative of conditions after critical shear stress application) and from the un-touched core section in the middle of the flume (representative of conditions before critical shear stress application). Further samples were sub-sampled using 50 ml syringe corers, which were stored and frozen vertically, then sliced in sections of 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, and 3-5 cm depth from the sediment surface. Sample processing was undertaken at a later date, using step-wise drying (24 hours at 60 degrees C) and ashing (24 hours at 450 degrees C) of the samples.
