Description
Summary:Variability in temperature, salinity and velocity was observed approximately 1.5 m beneath the base of Thwaites Glacier in the grounding zone region of the Eastern Ice Shelf as part of the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration MELT project. Using a borehole deployable turbulence instrument cluster, the average temperature, salinity and velocity was observed over a 15-minute period every 2 hours. Funding was provided by NSFPLR-NERC: Melting at Thwaites grounding zone and its control on sea level (THWAITES-MELT) NE/S006761/1. : The temperature and salinity data was collected using an RBRconcerto CT. The velocity data was collected using a Nobska MAVS (Modular Acoustic Velocity Sensor) differential acoustic travel-time 3-D velocity sensor. The instruments were attached to a battery, solar panel, and British Antarctic Survey datalogger at the ice surface. The 15-minute average values were calculated and stored on the datalogger every 2 hours. : RBRconcerto CT Nobska MAVS (Modular Acoustic Velocity Sensor) differential acoustic travel-time 3-D velocity sensor : The temperature data have an accuracy of ±0.002°C. The conductivity data have an accuracy of ±0.0003 S/m. The velocity data have an accuracy of ±0.1 cm/s. The RBRconcerto CT and Nobska MAVS were factory calibrated prior to deployment. Missing values are represented with -9999.
