Description
Summary:This dataset contains energy expenditure, sea surface temperature, foraging activity, day length, longitude, latitude, distance from the coastline and mass data from 17 common guillemots (Uria aalge) from the Isle of May during the 2016-2017 annual cycle. ... : Data have been collected by Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) staff on the May National Nature Reserve, Scotland (5611’N, 0233’W) using standardised methods since 1987, and this work has continued to the present as part of the Isle of May Long-term Study (IMLOTS; https://www.ceh.ac.uk/our-science/projects/isle-may-long-term-study). As part of the Isle of May Long-term Study, global location sensing (GLS) devices are regularly deployed and retrieved. From GLS data collected during the 2016-2017 annual cycle, we derived daily data on guillemot foraging activity (hours spent foraging), sea surface temperature values (SST; recorded by the bird-borne loggers), energy expenditure, location fixes and the number of daylight hours. Data on bird mass were obtained by weighing the birds with a Pesola spring balance at logger development and retrieval. The full methodology is available in the Supporting Information document attached to this record. ...
