Thwaites ice front position shapefiles 2000-2018

Description
Summary:This dataset contains the annual ice front position shapefiles of the Thwaites Glacier Ice Tongue between 2000 and 2018 as shown in the Miles et al. (2020) paper. Each shapefile was mapped manually from MODIS imagery in the March of each year. The dataset details the retreat of the ice tongue and transition from a tabular calving regime to a disintegration type calving. This work was funded by NERC grant NE/R000824/1. : The ice front position was mapped every March between 2000 and 2018 from MODIS satellite imagery. In some cases, the heavily fractured nature of the Thwaites Glacier Tongue made mapping the ice front difficult. For consistency, we took the same approach for each image and always mapped the outer edge of connected ice blocks at each time step. : The ice-fronts were mapped from MODIS satellite imagery from the NASA Worldview application (https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov). : In some cases, the heavily fractured nature of the Thwaites Glacier Tongue made mapping the ice front difficult.
