Summary:Analysis of natural and man–made situations, which are one of the most important problems of life and human life safety, society and the state now deserve much attention. The peculiarities of emergencies in the settlements of northern territories are determined by climatic conditions, as well as by possible man–made hazards related to the industrial activities of the northern regions, which can provoke dangerous for the person emergency situations. The study of the level of knowledge and actions in the event of possible emergencies in the northern conditions (by the example of Nizhnevartovsk) is an integral aspect in the field of national security, therefore the aim of the study was to analyze and evaluate the preparation of the population of the city of Nizhnevartovsk for protection from natural and man–made emergency situations.
