Distribution. North West Atlantic. Remarks. Autolytus varians was first described as A. ornatus, but the name was changed since Stephanosyllis ornata Verrill, 1873, was found to be congeneric. The description was based on female stolons, with 3 chaetigers in region a, and a "possible" male was also briefly described. The types that are available do not fit the original description. YPM 24219 is a stock with developing stolons, YPM 24223 is a male stolon.
