Description
Summary:Epiphragma (Epiphragma) ocellare (Linnaeus, 1760) Material examined: Spain: Cantabria, Belba, 11 km NE Puentenansa, 150 m, meadows along river, 22. V. 1994, 4 ɗ, P. Oosterbroek & C. Hartveld leg., J. Starý det. Turkey: Rize, 5 km SE Ayder, 1600 m, 31. V. 1995, 1 ɗ, H. v. Oorschot, H. v.d. Brink & P. Oosterbroek leg., J. Starý det. Distribution: Widespread in Europe, also known from Georgia, Turkey, Russia (south Siberia) and Canada (British Columbia). Confirmed for Spain (recorded before from Santander ) and Turkey from the east (so far known from Bolu, Mugla and Zonguldak in West Turkey). Note: Savchenko & Krivolutskaya (1976) and Savchenko (1983) obviously did not accept the subspecific status of E. ocellare gracilistyla Alexander, 1933, from Russian Far East, and this opinion is shared herewith. Euphylidorea crocotula (Séguy, 1941) (Figs 3, 6) Material examined: Morocco: Ht Atlas, Massif Toubkal, Oukaïmeden, 2500–2800 m, 2.– 8. VII. 1977, 1 specimen, 12.– 22. VII. 1977, 9 ɗ, 3 Ψ, 2500 m, at light, 16. VII. 1977, 1 ɗ; Ht Atlas, Massif Toubkal, Imlil, 17 km S Asni, 1400 m, 7. VII. 1977, 3 ɗ, 1 Ψ, all H. & T. Oorschot, E. Houkes & P. Oosterbroek leg., J. Starý det. Spain: Granada, Sierra Nevada, 0.5 km NE Trevélez, 1440 m, 28. VI. 1994, 1 ɗ, J.J. Wieringa leg., J. Starý det. Distribution: Described and only known from Morocco. First record for Spain (new to Europe); confirmed for Morocco. Note: Identity of E. crocotula is here elucidated based on the lectotype slide, here designated, and on new material. The species is closely related to E. dispar and E. lineola , differing in some external characters, which, however, may be variable to a certain degree, and the structure of the male terminalia, especially the shape of the gonostyli (Figs 3–5) and the size of the aedeagal complex in respect to other parts of the genitalia (Figs 6–8). Type material examined: Although, most probably, a single specimen was available to Séguy, there is no statement about the number of specimens in the description (Séguy 1941: 28–29). Hence, the slide examined is designated here as the lectotype to maintain the concept of the name in case additional specimens may be found to exist (cf. Recommendation 73 F of ICZN 1999). Lectotype ɗ (present designation): Morocco, Ht Atlas, Toubkal, Tachdirt, 2500 m, 15.– 31.VIII. 1938, male terminalia on slide, R. Paulian leg., MNHN, labelled: “ 1211 / Maroc / Toubkal / Paulian“ (hand-written) and “ Phylidorea / Limnophila / crocotula / TYPE Séguy / app. cepul.” (hand-written). Labelled as the lectotype by the present authors (“ LECTOTYPE / Euphylidorea / crocotula Séguy ɗ / J. Starý & P. Oosterbroek 2008 ”; printed, red label). The male terminalia on the slide are seriously distorted, giving both gonostyli unrecognizable shapes. Séguy‘s drawings (Séguy 1941: Figs 3–4), quite misleading in the shape on the gonostyli, reflect accurately this distortion and indicate unambiguously that they were drawn from this slide. The aedeagus, however, is recognizable and confirms conspecifity of the lectotype with the new material. Euphylidorea dispar (Meigen, 1818) (Figs 5, 8) Material examined: Spain: Madrid, Miraflores de la Sierra, Pto de la Canencia, 1600 m, 21. VII. 1972, 1 ɗ, 1 Ψ; Avila, Sierra de Gredos, Circo de Gredos, 15 km S Hoyos del Espino, 1900–2300 m, 19. VI. 1981, 1 ɗ, 1 Ψ, all M.J. & J.P. Duffels leg.; Avila, Sierra de Gredos, between Navarredonda de la Sierra and Pico de Almanzor, 1600 m, 19.V.– 5. VI. 1976, 5 ɗ, 1 Ψ, P. Oosterbroek & E. Boersma leg.; Caceres, Puerto del Piornal, 900– 1200 m, Quercus pyrenaica forest, 3. V. 1994, 1 ɗ, 3 Ψ, P. Oosterbroek & C. Hartveld leg.; Soria, 5 km N Abejar, 1200 m, Road SO 840, 5. VI. 2001, 1 Ψ, H. & I. v. Oorschot leg., all J. Starý det. Turkey: Istanbul, Belgrat Forest, 20 km N Istanbul, wet pasture land in deciduous forest, 22. V. 1995, 5 ɗ, 3 Ψ, P. Oosterbroek & C. Hartveld leg., J. Starý det. Distribution: Widespread in Europe. First record for Turkey; confirmed for Spain (so far known from Madrid only). Euphylidorea lineola (Meigen, 1804) (Figs 4, 7) Material examined: Greece: Ahaia, Chelmos, 1700 m, 38 °01' 36 "N 22 ° 13 ' 24 "E, 12. VI. 1997, 1 Ψ, J. Dils leg., J. Starý det.
