REMARKS : These are the first records from the Adriatic Sea. However, the identification is uncertain and in need of verification. According to Chambers & Muir (1997) H. glabra occurs in the North East Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, while Barnich & Fiege (2003) consider the presence of this species in the Mediterranean as uncertain. Harmothoe glabra has been often confused or synonymized with H. longisetis (Grube, 1863), but according to Barnich & Fiege (2000) the two species should be considered as distinct. Due to the confusion between the two taxa, all literature records of these species in the Mediterranean Sea and North-Eastern Atlantic are doubtful and need to be confirmed (Barnich & Fiege 2000, 2003).
