Note: S. tuberosum is a member of the large S. tuberosum species group comprising 50 nominal species described from North America, Europe and Asia (Adler & Crosskey 2015). Nearly all Nearctic species and the majority of the Asian species were first revealed chromosomally (Adler et al. 2004; Tangkawanit et al. 2009). Adler and Kuusela (1994) found three cytologically distinct species of the S. tuberosum group in material from the type locality of S. tuberosum in northern Finland.
