Type locality. England (without exact locality). Holotype. Natural History Museum, London (fide Lundquist & Edler, 1979). Type host. The common mole, Talpa europaea (L., 1758), in nests. Host range. Haemogamasus nidi has a very wide spectrum of hosts, including numerous species of rodents and insectivores (Bregetova, 1956a; Zemskaya, 1973; Whitaker & Wilson, 1974; Goncharova et al ., 1991; Whitaker et al ., 2007). May feed also on small birds (sparrows) and bats (Haitlinger, 1988). Distribution. Holarctic. In all areas of Asiatic Russia. Remarks.
