A maximum size of 152.4 cm (60 in) TL in Kamikawa (2017) is a misprint. Circumglobal; western Pacific Ocean north to Japan; Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska, and off British Columbia and central California; Hawai’i (Mecklenburg et al. 2002). Larvae reported from off Punta Eugenia, southern Baja California (Funes-Rodríguez et al. 2011).
