Central Baja California to Chile (Wisner 1976). Larvae reported as far north as the Ensenada area, northern Baja California (Funes-Rodríquez et al. 2011). Depth: surface to mesopelagic (Wisner 1976); depth: 9–342 m (30–1,122 ft) (Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006b).
