Description
Summary:Genus Heterotanoides Sieg, 1977 Sieg (1977a): 203; Sieg (1983): 442–443; Sieg (1986a): 47; Bamber & Bird (1997): 117, 120; Bamber (1998): 101, fig. 8; Larsen & Wilson (2002): 13; Bird & Larsen (2009): 156; Bird (2012): 2–3. Remarks . A small monogeneric family of small tanaids with phylogenetic affinity to the family Leptocheliidae Lang, 1973 according to an analysis by Bird (2012). It is quite widely distributed, including the southern tip of South America, the northern Pacific, East China Sea, New Zealand and South Africa. Nevertheless, the species’ small size (<2 mm, or even <1 mm) may lead to the genus being under-represented or overlooked in some collections. : Published as part of Bird, Graham J., 2019, Tanaidacea (Crustacea: Peracarida) from the Southern French Polynesia Expedition, 2014.
