Kodiak Island, Gulf of Alaska to Santa Barbara Island (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983), and on mainland to Point Loma, southern California (Personal communication: Santa Barbara Natural History Museum Fish Collection, Santa Barbara, California). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 11 m (36 ft) (min.: Miller and Lea 1972; max.: Personal communication: Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History Fish Collection, Los Angeles, California).
