Circumglobal (Fricke et al. 2020); western Pacific Ocean north to Yonaguni-jima Island, Japan (Koeda et al. 2016); Monterey Bay, California (Personal communication: California Academy of Sciences Fish Collection, San Francisco, California) to Antofagasta, northern Chile (Sielfeld et al. 2010), including Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997), and Gulf of California (Galván-Magaña et al. 1996). Depth: surface to 24 m (79 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Fricke et al. 2019).
