Circumglobal (Fricke et al. 2020); western Pacific Ocean north to Japan and East China Sea (Gushiken in Masuda et al. 1984); Pacific Grove, central California (Miller and Lea 1972) to Peru (Watson et al. in Moser 1996), Easter Island (Pequeño 1989), and Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997); apparently not in Gulf of California (Robertson and Allen 2002). Depth: surface to 320 m (1,050 ft) (Mundy 2005).
